Our Vision

At PYLUSD, we accelerate the process of English language acquisition, equipping students with the skills and competency of native speakers.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a district-wide, systematic, coherent English language development program that moves students to reclassification in three years.

What we are doing

We believe that teaching English requires expert language teachers. As a district we are committed to refine our practices, provide focused time on English language development, and offer appropriate training to our staff to meet the needs of our English Learners. We believe that English learners, like other children, can quickly learn and master the requirements of native fluency if the instructional program is systematic and specific.  Our redesigned program of instruction for English learners in grades K-12 has an emphasis in the following areas:

1. Accelerating the rate of English language learning

2. Teaching English as a foreign language

3. Establishing key program and instructional principles to guide the program

4. Increasing the priority of ELD and expanding its time allotment

5. Bringing uniformity and coherence to instructional practices across the district

6. Maximizing access to core academic subjects
