Thursday/Friday, April 18th & 19th:
OARS Testing
(this is a mock CST test that allows students/teachers/parents to see which standards our students have mastered.
Individual results will be given to each student and practice will be provided for any standards
not scored proficient. This will ensure extra practice before our state testing in May.

Spring Training of Baseball Literature Circles!!!
Let's get ready to....ROll of Thunder, Hear My Cry! Starting Monday, April 22nd we will begin our 5 week Spring Training for Baseball Lit Circles. Students will be reading, discussing, creating, thinking and designing some great material! Stay tuned for upcoming GAME DAYS in our Class Playbook located in Web Files!

Week of 4/22 - 4/26
Get Ready for some SPRING TRAINING!!!!
Each student was assessed by OARS last week (Mock CST test covering all 6th grade standards in 75 questions) to determine which 6th grade state standards he/she may need to practice more in time for mastering 2013's CST State Testing.
If a student scored below a 70% in any standard strand, I will be giving them practic homework in that individual standard this week. ALL PRACTICE IS DUE FRIDAY, 4/26!
We will meet during class to ensure they thoroughly understand and are able to master it come testing time. :)
Because we are individualizing homework according to each students' needs this week, please see and sign their OARS data report.
HOMEWORK FOR WEEK:
1. Discuss and sign OARS data report and bring back to school by Wed., 4/24.
2. Standards Practice: If you scored below Proficient (70%) on any specific standards, please complete practice homework by FRIDAY, 4/26.

**Each student will be given research/ppt of the information they are responsible for and will need to write 1 summary of info and draw/clip art 1 graphic to represent their summary.
5. Civil Rights Timeline:DUE FRIDAY, 4/26
**Each student will receive an information strip containing a DATE and an EVENT. They need to use the paper provided in class to create one piece of our class timeline of what occurred during the Civil Rights Movement. This will give them a deeper perspective as we read our novel which is set in Mississippi during 1930's and 1940's.
5. Baseball Literature Circles PLAYBOOK!
No better time than spring training, to read our novel and complete our assignments "baseball style"!
Each student will need the PLAYBOOK to refer to over the next 5 weeks. Included in the playbook are important due dates, explanations of classwork, homework and examples provided.
***Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry PLAYBOOK is located under the WEBFILES. Each student receives 3 points extra credit if they print it out and bring it to school by Monday, 4/29.
**If you do not have access to online/printer, one will be provided for each student.

This week will be our 4th week of routine skills including: spelling/vocabulary, Greek/Latin Root Words, Grammar Lesson of the Week and WARV.
Also, we will continue to "RESEARCH" magazine print ads for our B.A.A.C. Project! Also, for our Board Meeting on Tuesday, we will learn how to outline properly and students will need to complete an outline of their advertisment proposal for approval by next Tuesday, March 26.
Monday, 3/18:
1. Spelling/Vocabulary: 12 words on the Memoir "Chinatown". Please study your words and definitions for the quiz this Friday!

We discussed this in class and saw many examples of How To Manuals as we analyze 2.0 Expository Test! Remember to come up with a creative topic, a minimum of 5 steps using the proper signal words/transitions and the final product can be a Word Document, poster, power point, or DVD! Have Fun!
