Cathy German

Welcome to my website! My name is Mrs. Cathy German. After being raised in Placentia with my mother, Pat Van Houten, a teacher at Wagner for over 25 years and my father, Brooks Van Houten, an North American Aviation Engineer and later, the first FBI-trained CSI with the Placentia Police Department, you could say that I am truly home-grown. I started at Morse Elementary in Kindergarten and went all of the way through to graduate from Valencia. I even remember when the land that Tuffree stands on now was all orange groves.

After college and graduate school for my Master’s degree, I returned to the district and have almost 30 years in education serving as a K-12 Teacher, High School Administrator, Dean of Students, Activities Director, Alternative Education Instructor, Mentor Teacher & Post-Graduate Instructor at Chapman University. My entire family is further invested in the district at Valencia High School - with my husband, John, an Economics teacher and coaches Varsity Football and Varsity Softball. My son is a Junior who has been involved in a variety of activities including Football, Lacrosse, Track & Field and Drama. My daughter was very involved at school serving on ASB, as a Songleader and also playing Lacrosse. She graduated in 2013 and is now in college.

Although my Tiger stripes run deep, it is easy see why Tuffree has been named as one of the top middle schools in Orange County. It’s the people - and I am thrilled to be part of such an outstanding staff and feel honored to work with the fabulous Falcon family of students, parents and community members.
